Jonathan and Lisa Hunt
9687 Tavernier Drive
Boca Raton, FL 33496
(561) 477-6623
Jonathan and Lisa Hunt have shared a studio since 1985, when they were students at Paier College of Art
in Hamden, Connecticut. The two of them produce paintings and write stories on their own, but the Hunts
especiallv enjoy working as a team. Watercolor is their chosen medium. The subject matter of their art
ranges from children's picture books to adult Fantasy, Science Fiction and even Horror.
The Hunts were commissioned to design and illustrate the poster for the 1992 New Hampshire summer
reading progam. Their work has appeared in magazines like ASIMOV'S SCIENCE FICTION,
ANALOG, CRICKET, ODYSSEY, OFF WORLD, and HAUNTS. Jon wrote and illustrated the children's
picture book, ILLUMINATIONS. He has also illustrated THE MAPMAKER'S DAUGHTER,
VICTORIUS PAINTS THE GREAT BALLOON, JUMBO (by acclaimed author Rhoda Blumberg), and
most recently, A TALE OF TULIPS, A TALE OF ONIONS by David Birchman, and MOON TROUBLE
by M.C. Helldorfer. A watercolor from THE MAPMAKER'S DAUGHTER was displayed at the Society
of Illustrators in New York City as part of the "Original Art" children's book illustration show. Jon is
currently at work writing and illustrating a picturebook about Leif Eiriksson. The work of both Hunts has
also appeared in a companion CD, SCI-FI AND FANTASY CLIPART: ATLANTIS TO THE STARS.
Lisa has done illustrations for a number of books about myth and magic for Llewellyn Publishing. Lisa &
Jon's collaborative counting book ONE IS A MOUSE (1995) has been published by Macmillan Books for
Young Readers.
The Hunts belong to the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA) and have been
members of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) since 1987.
In 1991, Jonathan & Lisa started their company, Moon Shine Studios to print and market their own fine
art prints, greeting cards, and books. They sell these products through mail order as well as at Science
Fiction and Fantasy conventions, expositions, and library conferences.
The Hunts have had solo art shows in Connecticut and New Hampshire. Both Jonathan and Lisa's works
have received awards at Science Fiction and Fantasy art shows. Lisa's painting, "Tsarina of the Snows,"
was nominated for ASFA's 1992 Chesley Award for "Best unpublished work, color."
Since 1990, the Hunts have taught illustration at Lebanon College in Lebanon, NH. They have spoken at
schools and libraries throughout New England (and beyond!) on the subjects of art and illustration.
Jonathan and Lisa conduct art-related workshops for both children and adults. They now live in sunny
Florida.
